Something else to feel guilty about

Yesterday I received an e-mail from my mother. Here is what it says:

We're in Ushuaia at the end of the world! Tomorrow we take a 12 hour bus ride into Chile and then fly to Antarctica for one night among the penguins (or whatever is down there)!! The trip is going great!

Jane

She and my father take off for a month or longer several times a year and travel to distant lands. You name it, they've been there. They are quite the adventurers. They prefer to go off the beaten path, rarely investing in organized tours. It is thier expression of freedom. This September, my father turns seventy. Mother is not much younger. A big fear of mine is that one of these trips they won't return.

Frosty is my indoor/outdoor cat. She is quite the hunter. It's just her nature. You name it, she's probably killed it. Yet despite her killer instincts, she is a rather affectionate creature with her purrs and lovey eyes. Because our house butts up to open space with it's foxes, coyotes, hawks, etc., I fear that one day she won't come home.

Is it wrong to put your parents and your pets on the same plane of worry?
